REC Market Meeting 2023
A world of new opportunities for renewable energy
The 2023 REC Market Meeting took place in a world of new opportunities for renewable energy. Governments, corporate consumers, and individuals are more motivated than ever to cut their use of fossil fuels. Renewables are increasingly understood to be the affordable, clean, and secure energy sources we need. With this growing understanding comes the opportunity to move renewables to dominant positions in energy systems and markets. Some of these opportunities were showcased in a wide-ranging conference programme that appealed to both experts and novices in the renewable sector.
This was the 11th edition of the REC Market Meeting. Every year RECS has welcomed more delegates than in previous years, and in 2023 the conference was completely sold out with 550 delegates. 2023 is another strong year as both market actors and regulators look to renewable energy to address the multiple crises of climate change, cost of living increases, and complex energy geo-politics. Each of these crises is global, and RECS is happy to attracted delegates from more countries than ever before. Everyone had an opportunity to hear from actors across the Energy Attribute Certificate (EAC) value chain, including regulators, system operators, producers, traders, buyers, and end-users.
The programme run with three parallel streams. Each session highlighted current and future opportunities in the renewable energy sector.
Track A: Europe in focus – these sessions focus on key European topics. They covered recent market, legislative, and system developments at both national and European levels.
Track B: Global markets and initiatives – delegates joined these sessions to learn about renewables markets outside the US and Europe. Key national and international developments were explored in detail.
Track C: EACs in practice – These sessions were particularly informative for those who are new to renewables markets. Delegates were invited to ask questions in these educational sessions.
